Responsibilities for Coaches

Player Development: Coaches are responsible for practices based on team based approach skills, IQ and strategies. Thunder coaches must assess player strengths and weaknesses, provide feedback, and create personalized training plans to help players improve outside of practice.

Team Strategy: Coaches develop and implement offensive and defensive strategies to outsmart opponents. 

Game Management: Coaches lead the team during games, making strategic decisions, managing substitutions, and providing in-game adjustments to optimize performance.

Practice Organization: Coaches plan and lead practice sessions, ensuring they are effective and engaging for all players.

Mentorship: Thunder coaches must provide guidance and support to players, helping them develop not only their basketball skills but also important life skills like teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship.

Communication: Thunder coaches must communicate regularly with players, assistant coaches, parents, and athletic staff to ensure alignment on goals and expectations.

Compliance: Thunder coaches ensure compliance with player eligibility, and also need to comply to our organizations philosophy.

Recruitment: Coaches are not required but may be involved in recruiting new role players and building a competitive roster.

Responsibilities for Coach Assistants

Player Development: Coach assistants are responsible for training and correcting key details in training, following the coaches style of practice.

Practice and Game Warmups: Coach assistants are responsible for practice and pre-game warmup routines.

Stepping in: Coach assistants must step in and run practice or coach games in the absence of the main coach.

Responsibilities for Staff/Admin/Managers

Administrative Tasks: Managers handle various administrative duties, including managing team budgets, scheduling games and practices, and coordinating travel arrangements.

Equipment Management: Help maintain and organize team equipment and uniforms.

Travel Coordination: Assist with travel arrangements for games and other team events.

Team Communication: Maintain open communication with players, coaches, and other staff members.

Promote Team Culture: Help foster a positive and supportive team environment.

Responsibilities for Players

Teamwork: Working together with teammates to develop and execute game strategies is a fundamental aspect of basketball.

Roles: Understanding their position and role on the team and work on scoring, rebounding, defense, passing, ball handling, positioning executing plays.

Training and Conditioning: Participating in as many possible practices and work as hard as they can every time, no questions asked.

Game Preparation: This includes studying game film, understanding opponent tendencies, and preparing for specific game situations.

Positive Attitude: Maintaining a positive mindset, staying focused, and supporting teammates are crucial for team success.

Following Instructions: Players must adhere to the guidance and instructions provided by coaches and team staff.

Responsibilities for Parents

Encouragement and Emotional Support: Celebrate successes, no matter how small, and offer comfort during setbacks. Focus on effort and improvement rather than just results.

Supporting the Coach and Team: Respect the coach's decisions and authority. Avoid coaching from the sidelines and trust the coach's expertise. Communicate directly with the coach about any concerns or questions. Be an active participant in team activities and volunteer when possible.

Modeling Good Sportsmanship: Be respectful of all players, coaches, officials, and other parents. Avoid negative comments or criticisms of players, coaches, or officials. Focus on the positive aspects of the game and the children's enjoyment. Model fair play and sportsmanship in all interactions.

Fostering a Love for the Game: Encourage your child's passion for basketball and help them develop a love for the sport. Avoid putting excessive pressure on your child to win or perform at a certain level. Help your child maintain a healthy balance between basketball and other aspects of their life.

Other Important Responsibilities: Ensure your child attends practices and games on time. Help your child understand and abide by team rules and expectations. Celebrate your child's achievements and milestones with them.
